| By Jeff Deutsch. Houston Publishing.
For individual jazz and pop singers, or High School / college classes. In other words, this is a comprehensive book, with concepts thoroughly covered, not a dummed-down approach. Covers musical terms, theory, ear-training. Teaches skills that jazz or pop singers will need on the bandstand or in the studio. Includes examples and exercises on vocal harmony, transposition, sight-singing, and chart writing as well as accompaniment on CD for many of the exercises. |
| By Lis Lewis. For anyone that sings popular music, but has no formal training, this book/CD is designed to help improve the voice with a variety of exercise techniques. Exercises include: warming up, stabilizing the tone, loosening the throat and placing the sound forward, increasing range, breath control, etc. |
| By David Bauguess. This easy-to-use audio course for self or small group study is a step-by-step introduction to music reading skills. From the creator of The Jenson Sight Singing Course, this resource will be an effective tool for building student confidence and skill. |
| This book/CD pack by veteran vocal coach Lis Lewis (Steve Miller, Herbie Hancock, Bobby McFerrin, Gwen Stefani) will help singers of all styles of music warm up their voices, increase their endurance and range, correct bad habits, and sing longer and better. It is divided into two sections: The Singer's Troubleshooting Guide covers vocal health, practice, auditions, rehearsing, recording and performing. The Singer's Warm-Up CD features helpful exercises to prepare the voice for serious singing (also notated in the text, with extensive helpful hints). |

| This book does not include a CD. But, I list it here because it is such a wonderful resource for any singer (choral or soloist) with access to a keyboard or piano to plunk out the individual notes of the exercises. There are 200 exercises for vocal development, ranging from very simple to complex intervals and rhythms. For choral singers, many of the exercises will be familiar. Choral directors - this is a MUST HAVE in my opinion, as the exercises include the ones you probably already use as warm-ups, but there are hundreds of others that will increase the capability of your choir. For singers from rock to classical, the warm-ups will increase range and power, there is even a section dealing with posture, another section dealing with breathing exercises and the diaphragm and how the voice works. A great find, this is a collection I highly recommend! Published by Schott in Germany, translated into English. |
