Poeschl Artist Benches
Poeschl Artist Duet Benches

--- Complete money-back guarantee ---

If you are unsatisfied with the quality of any piano bench you have purchased from Sheet Music Online,
you may return the bench for a complete refund!

Online since 1995 - Now the #1 Poeschl Artist Bench Retailer!
Ask ANY piano teacher or accomplished performer:
Everyone seated at the piano needs an appropriate height. Standard unadjustable benches are too high for adults, and too low for children. And, an adjustable Artist Bench absolutely increases the value of your Grand Piano!
The following Artist Benches are made in Oshkosh Wisconsin by Poeschl Manufacturing Co., who specialize in hand-crafting high quality benches and stools. A family-owned business for nearly 30 years, Poeschl is known to be one of the best on the market, and fully guarantees the quality of all of their benches and stools. Poeschl is the only piano bench manufacturer contracted by Steinway for their polyester grand pianos.
Sheet Music Online is very proud to offer these artist benches at unbeatable prices!

These are the exact thickly padded benches used on any formal recital stage.

If your piano has a different style of legs, our line of Jansen benches has a wider variety of leg styles (square tapered, early american, round turned, etc.).

A Bench Size
Standard or Duet

Consider a duet size! My advice: get a tape measure and get an idea of how a duet size will look in front of your piano. In my opinion, the rectangular shape of the duet looks fantastic in front of a grand, better than the more boxy shape of the standard. Personally, I would spend the money for a duet/vinyl rather than the same dollars for a standard size with leather. One of my benches is a Poeschl duet mahogany with brown vinyl, sits in front of my Steinway grand and looks gorgeous, even makes the piano look bigger than it is.

All of this (and the below) is just my opinion though - if nothing else, it's an honest opinion!

B Bench Leg Style
The bench legs should be a reasonably close match to the piano leg style. If your piano has ornate style legs, then consider a Jansen bench since there are more options. I have seen a spade leg mahogany bench in front of a queen anne leg-style piano, and I must admit it still looked very nice. It all depends on how perfectly you want the bench legs to match the piano legs.

C Bench Color
Standard mahogany is mostly brown with a hint of rust/red. This is the common shade of mahogany seen in most furniture and pianos. Red mahogany is very red, a popular color during the last 10 years or so. If your piano is a red mahogany, it is quite obvious to the eye.

D Color Texture
Satin finish looks as if you took a high polish finish, and lightly buffed it with ultra-fine steel wool. If you get up close (couple of inches) to a satin finish, you can see the zillions of tiny buffed scratches that create the satin look.
High polish is also lacquer like the satin, but very shiny. Polyester is the highest gloss made, and is a totally different process of application. Polyester pianos look like a sheet of water is over the finish. Keep in mind that the frame/legs of the bench are not a huge area, so a high polish lacquer will look OK in front of a polyester piano. Not a perfect match, but close enough in my opinion, and it's a lot less expensive.

E Top Color
Black or Brown

Black looks good on all benches. The brown is dark, so also works beautifully. Keep in mind other furniture in your room when choosing the bench top color. The only combination that does not look good, is an ebony bench with anything other than a black top. All tops, whether vinyl or leather on a standard finish or high polish finish (or polyester finish), are the same sheen. There is no such thing as a high polish vinyl or leather.

F Top
Vinyl or Leather

If I set a leather top artist bench next to a vinyl top artist bench, could you guess which one is which? If so, get leather. If not. . . you're like me.
Leather breathes, vinyl does not. Leather can absorb body oils, vinyl does not (practicing on a hot humid day in shorts?). Leather may be softer, but the padding underneath is very firm, so it's not like a leather couch. I can fix a cut or puncture in vinyl - never tried to repair leather. Poeschl uses the highest grade of furniture leather available, same is true for the grade of vinyl they use. Neither will wear out, both are very durable. I'm not much help on this. My wife would like leather in the living room, I have always owned vinyl. Your call.
